Training Seminars for MPs and caseworkers
Tuesday
11th December 2001
10am to 12 noon OR 2pm to 4pm
These
seminars are now both fully booked (at 6 December). We shall be
organising another similar seminar in the New Year.
In
the midst of our ‘information society’ where personal information
can more easily be accessed, no organisation can afford to leave
issues of privacy to simple office traditions or ‘common sense’
approaches. Many organisations are now engaging in a new type of training
- "privacy training".
For
MPs offices, managing privacy and discretion when dealing with a
constituency case, from whichever party perspective, is vital. Be it a
blocked drain or a mental health issue, constituents do not want their
personal problems or grievances being divulged to third parties, not
least, without their consent. With the emergence of the 1998 Data
Protection Act, the MPs office needs to have a practical sense of
implementing good privacy practice.
These
short (2 hr) data protection and privacy seminars will be run by Pricewaterhouse
Coopers and have been brought together by the Parliamentary
learning team (formerly ADAPT) and the Department of Finance and
Administration. Amongst other things, the seminar will help
practically address issues relating to:
-
Managing
information in the MPs office
-
Dealing
with sensitive constituency cases
-
Privacy
monitoring and evaluation
-
Developing
office policies on privacy
-
Dealing
with a potential ‘third party’
-
Issues of
consent
