updated: 20 November 2003 Update:
November 2003:
We have received a number of requests recently for a reminder of the
present pay scales for staff so here's the information you need. Pay
scales for MPs' staff were last revised with effect from 1 April
2003. Click here
to view guidance notes and all the new scales (PDF format -
14KB). These
earnings-related increases are still not awarded automatically; if
your Member doesn't make arrangements to increase your pay in line with
the new scales, the onus is on you to ask him/her for an adjustment.
At present there is no obligation on Members to comply.

Update 11
April:
The
Parliamentary Branch of the TGWU, which has membership in all the main
parties, comments:
"The
TGWU MPs' staff branch has long argued that the cost-of-living increase in
the Staffing Allowance each April should be paid automatically to staff.
The current situation forces over 2,000 staff to go to their MP each April
to argue for this increase. Even if only 75% of staff receive the
increase, think how much the saving on MPs' time and Parliament's admin
would be if the rises were automatic and they didn't have to process 1,500
individual pieces of correspondence."
Kevin Flack,
Secretary TGWU Branch
